|
|
| In 2001, Dr Denise Faustman @ Massachusetts General Hospital cured type 1 in mice, without transplants, stem cells, nor toxic drugs. She found a way to stop the autoimmune attack on the body, then destroyed the "killer" cells that attack the islet cells in the pancreas. The islet cells in the pancreas then regenerated, they grew back! Even in mice with end-stage disease, total reversal of type 1 diabetes. This research is also promising for other autoimmune diseases such as MS , Lupus, and Crohn's. Human clinical trials are expected in early 2008. This is the kind of cure I am hoping for , for my daughter. Please visit www.faustmanlab.org, or www.iacoccafoundation.org for more info. |

WOW Dee, this is amazing!!! Human trials coming soon. I have my fingers crossed too, as there appear to have been quite a few promising breakthroughs in the past year.
Thanks so much for sharing the info!!!
I'll be doing an article on the "research process" in the coming months as I've been invited to visit a student doing diabetes research - and that whole area and how things actually come into being is a huge "fog" for me - perhaps even for most of us, I assume.
Please keep us posted as you find out more - this is all so exciting, not only for those of us who already live with diabetes, but for the next generation.
Warmly,
Sandy |

The only thing holding back this research is funding. The ADA and the JDRF would not donate any funding to Dr Faustman's research. You won't find any pharmaceutical companies supporting her research, because they make more $$ selling insulin than selling BCG, which is the substance being tested to halt the autoimmune attack. BCG has been used safely in humans for years as the tuberculosis vaccine. It is not under patent any longer, and costs about $15 per vial. That is why the grassroots efforts of Join Lee Now, thru the Iacocca Foundation, came into being. I personally donate to this research, and became the PA State Captain for Join Lee Now to help spread the word about the research. My daughter was diagnosed 3 years ago, on the day of her 8th birthday. She is my reason to do whatever I can to help further this research. Anyone interested in more info on how to help, or the address to donate directly to Dr Faustman's lab, please e-mail me at mridlk@hotmail.com.
Thanks, Dee |

I have just loaned the book Cheating Destiny by James Hirsh , writer with type 1 , his Son relatively recently diagnosed with type 1 , James's brother , type 1 and Endocronoligist, to my friend , whose son is 10 and a pumper .
James writes passionately about the arrival of the cure or lack there off and Dr. Faustman's research .
I recommend the book . About CAN $ 36.00 , including taxes.

FYI.....I receive as a member of the Canadian Diabetes Association the "Diabetes Dialogue " magazine .
On page 4 of the Summer 2008 volume Dr. Denise Faustman 's article is requesting participants for the groundbreaking type 1 diabetes clinical trial . The last paragraph of the article states " for the blood screening part of this study , we have people , who come one or two times a year from as far away as Manitoba, Nova Scotia and the Northwest Territories " .
Great to read, that Canadians are involved .
